Event to be held in conjunction with 2010 HPA Technology Retreat

WASHINGTON, January 25, 2010 – The Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) is organizing a one-half day seminar on digital audio technology to be held February 16, 2010. The “ATSC Summit on Audio Loudness Management” will be an opportunity for interested members of the media production and broadcasting communities to attend informative presentations, discussions, and demonstrations on managing digital audio for television. The presenters are all audio professionals that are active in the industry and very familiar with the work the ATSC has accomplished for digital broadcast sound.

This program is a follow-up seminar to an event held last year on audio issues. The focus of the 2009 program was identifying solutions to the challenge of audio loudness variations among TV program elements. This session will examine the landmark Recommended Practice (RP) on audio loudness issues developed by the ATSC.

ATSC President Mark Richer noted, "It’s critically important that industry professionals involved in the production, distribution and transmission understand the ATSC Recommended Practice on Techniques for Establishing and Maintaining Audio Loudness for Digital Television."

"This seminar is an excellent opportunity for audio engineers and technical managers to learn about the ATSC RP on audio loudness and question the experts who developed the document", says Jerry Whitaker, ATSC Vice President for Standards Development.

The Audio Summit will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 1:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Ranchos Las Palmas Resort, 41000 Bob Hope Drive Rancho Mirage, CA 92270. Additional information and registration can be found on the HPA web site.

For more information on current ATSC work relating to audio issues, please visit the ATSC Web site (http://www.atsc.org) ATSC Standards and Recommended Practices are available at no charge from the site.
