ATSC ELECTS ROBERT RAST AS NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

ATSC Announces New 2005 Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 9, 2004 – Members of the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) have elected Robert Rast, Micronas, to be the 2005 Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Rast has been an active participant in ATSC and has served on its Board and Executive Committee. Mr. Rast has extensive executive experience in nearly every aspect of the DTV industry – including receiver and transmission technologies, digital audio and digital HDTV, as well as digital cinema. He played a key role in the creation of the Grand Alliance digital television system, which led to the development of the ATSC DTV Standard (A/53).

ATSC members also elected four members to the board: Ed Barrett, Sony, Wayne Luplow, Zenith; Mike McEwen, Canadian Digital Television (CDTV) and Brian Smith, Philips. Board members whose terms continue in 2005 are Lynn Claudy (NAB), Ralph Justus (CEA), Andy Scott (NCTA), Peter Symes (SMPTE ), Joseph Flaherty (CBS), Ira Goldstone (Tribune), Tom Hankinson (ABC), Phil Livingston (Panasonic) and Glenn Reitmeier (NBC).The IEEE has appointed Yiyan Wu (CRC) to serve on the ATSC Board.

The Advanced Television Systems Committee is an international, non-profit organization developing voluntary standards for the entire range of advanced television systems. The ATSC member organizations represent the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite, and semiconductor industries.
