THE ENVELOPE PLEASE… ATSC 3.0 Contributor Dolby Receives International Honour for Excellence
Dolby Laboratories, a key contributor to audio and video standards for ATSC 3.0, received the 2017 International Honour for Excellence, the International Broadcasting Convention’s highest accolade. ATSC board member Craig Todd, Dolby Senior VP and CTO of Dolby, accepted the award on the company’s behalf during the IBC’s 50th annual IBC convention in Amsterdam last month.
IBC CEO Michael Crimp recalled honoring Ray Dolby himself with the predecessor of the International Honor for Excellence, the John Tucker Award, in 2000.“In IBC’s 50th anniversary year, this is a great opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come in technical innovation. Dolby’s great achievements in changing the soundtrack of all our lives, over 50 years, cannot be underestimated,” said Crimp.
By extension, this award recognizes core technologies in ATSC 3.0 – from high dynamic range enhancements to the A/341 Video standard to innovations behind the A/342 Audio standard that Dolby contributed to along with other ATSC members. The ATSC congratulates Dolby!
