THE ENVELOPE PLEASE… ATSC 3.0 Named ‘Most Innovative and Disruptive Technology’
Next Gen TV powered by ATSC 3.0 has been named the “Most Significant New Technology” by InteractiveTV Today (ITVT). Presented to the ATSC at the 2017 TV of Tomorrow Show this summer, the INTV 2017 Leadership Award recognizes the industry’s “most innovative and disruptive technology, platform or product.”
“It’s a great honor to be recognized by innovators in interactive television, a community that is beginning to recognize what’s possible with the emerging ATSC 3.0,” said ATSC President Mark Richer.
The ATSC’s award from ITVT “for leadership in interactive and multiplatform television” underscores the unprecedented innovation behind the ATSC 3.0 suite of standards that will usher in a new era in television, including new levels of interactivity and personalization.
“The Next Gen TV standard has the same IP backbone as the Internet and other TV services, and we believe that broadcasters and other innovators will find new ways to seamlessly unify OTA (over-the-air) with OTT (over-the-top) content for the benefit of viewers everywhere,” Richer said.
This prestigious recognition comes on the heels of the “NextGen TV Hub Powered by ATSC 3.0” exhibit at the 2017 NAB Show earning the coveted “Best NAB Show Booth Award” from Sound & Video Contractor – a tribute to the more than two dozen companies supporting the demonstration and the vibrant displays used to showcase ATSC 3.0’s capabilities at the show.
