NAB SHOW REWIND: 50-Plus ATSC Members Exhibit 3.0 Technologies

The rollout of ATSC 3.0 technologies is building steam, with more than 50 ATSC members exhibiting some flavor of new ATSC products and services at last month’s 2019 NAB Show in Las Vegas. Throughout the week, attendees learned about Next Gen TV in more than 100 sessions about ATSC 3.0 capabilities during PBS TechCon, the NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference, and on the “Ride the Road to ATSC 3.0” presentation stage at the show. 

In fact, more than 20 industry experts participated in educational sessions in the Ride the Road exhibit in North Hall.  Those sessions are available for video playback from both ATSC.org and also www.NextGenTVInfo.com. PowerPoint presentations from those sessions also are available for download alongside the video playback.

Jointly hosted by the ATSC, CTA and NAB, the Ride the Road exhibit was sponsored by Pearl TV, Sinclair Broadcast Group, LG Electronics, Dolby, Sony, Samsung, Zenith and the AWARN Alliance.  The centerpiece of the stage was a giant new LED video wall optimized for broadcast applications, provided by LG Business Solutions.

In the North Hall and Central Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, NAB, with support from a number of technology companies, demonstrated ATSC 3.0’s Single Frequency Network capabilities, showing how reception can be improved in difficult locations and in moving vehicles by deploying multiple broadcast towers transmitting the broadcast signal on the same channel.
