Pearl TV
1. Name, Title, Company.

2. What did your organization showcase at CES?
Pearl was pleased to join the ATSC booth to showcase the NEXTGEN TV logo certification program, the results of consumer research about what consumers like about the new service, the audio and accessibility enhancements made possible with NEXTGEN TV, and the “next for certification” upgrade accessory receivers and antennas that are all part of the ecosystem.
3. How does it further the deployment or expansion of ATSC 3.0?
A successful transition requires both a robust transmission network of stations and also millions of consumer receivers. We’re delighted that Sony, Hisense, LG, and Samsung are all supporting NEXTGEN TV and look forward to the introduction later this year of the first consumer upgrade accessory receivers that will connect with a simple HDMI cable and an antenna.
4. What was your favorite part of the CES 2023 Show?
As with the NAB Show, major events like CES give us the opportunity to reach dozens of decision makers in just a few days. We enjoyed the opportunity to brief consumer technology companies about the ongoing rollout of NEXTGEN TV, including Pearl’s launch of the Miami market on the first day of CES.
5. Were you able to walk the show floor? What was the most interesting thing (other than the ATSC booth!) that you saw?
While there’s a lot of attention on things other than television at CES, the jaw-dropping displays at Hisense and LG were especially interesting. Hisense was promoting NEXTGEN TV in their booth, and next year we hope to see even more manufacturers doing the same.
Sinclair Broadcast Group/ONE Media
1. Name, Title, Company.
Mark A. Aitken, President, ONE Media 3.0 LLC/SVP, Sinclair Broadcast Group
2. What did your organization showcase at CES?
We focused on ‘spectrum value creation’ opportunities with ATSC 3.0 NextGen technologies through several demonstrations. As we move forward with deployments of 3.0 across the country, heads are turning towards monetization and increased viewer engagement.
• Viewer/User engagement with the Interactive Content environment (A/344 receiver enabled) across multiple platforms. We demonstrated extension across traditional Multichannel Video Programming Distributor (MVPD) environments using the A/334 Verance Aspect watermark. This included a wide variety of important and essential ‘life saving’ AEI (Advanced Emergency Informing) related services.
• Infotainment services (audio only ‘radio’ services in addition to mobile video) in the automotive/vehicular environment enabled by extensions of the A/300 suite of standards.
• Digital Signage and related data distribution enabled by Sinclair’s ongoing development of a national Multicast/Broadcast platform. The USSI Global Datacasting pilot program delivers local content, advertising, and data files to the rapidly growing Electric Vehicle Charging station and other related markets.
All the above is enabled by Sinclair’s DDaaS (Data Distribution as a Service) platform development that extends across a growing network of NextGen Broadcast facilities.
3. How does it further the deployment or expansion of ATSC 3.0?
Our demonstrations were meant to provide understanding of real-world uses that provide new avenues for revenue generation by ATSC 3.0 NextGen enabled facilities. As the television broadcast industry faces increasing challenges associated with today’s core businesses, it is important to understand how new investment can provide future returns and unleash our untapped spectrum value.
4. What was your favorite part of the CES 2023 Show?
I was pleased to see and hear the excitement of new industry segments engaged in vibrant conversation with various ATSC members. New ideas that covered unexplored uses of our valued spectrum and infrastructure came into many conversations. There was tremendous foot traffic, and the discussions provided new insight for future business opportunities.
5. Were you able to walk the show floor? What was the most interesting thing (other than the ATSC booth!) that you saw?
The growth of engagement by the automotive and vehicle markets that are ‘ripe’ for new alternatives in wireless IP data distribution and communications was enlightening. ATSC 3.0 is perfectly suited to reap the harvest in tomorrow’s wirelessly connected world if we collaborate and provide the means to distribute and link our developing platform to future needs.
