Avanci Broadcast: Applying Proven Licensing Models to Power the Next Phase of ATSC 3.0
For more than a decade, Avanci has played a central role in enabling the deployment of global, standards-based technologies through efficient and predictable patent licensing solutions. Avanci is best known for its work in the automotive sector, where its vehicle licensing platform has helped accelerate the adoption of connected-vehicle technologies across the industry. That same experience, discipline, and scale are now being applied to broadcasting.
The launch of Avanci Broadcast reflects a deliberate effort to transfer what works in mature technology ecosystems to the rapidly growing ATSC 3.0 environment. In the vehicle market, Avanci helped solve a familiar challenge: how to reduce licensing complexity, improve transparency, and allow companies to focus on innovation rather than negotiations. Those learnings – clear scope, broad participation, predictable pricing, and global reach – form the foundation of Avanci Broadcast.
Today, the Avanci Broadcast ATSC 3.0 program is already firmly established. It brings together nearly all patent owners that have developed essential ATSC 3.0 technologies, creating one of the most comprehensive licensing solutions available for manufacturers of ATSC 3.0 products. As a result, more than 90% of ATSC 3.0 product sales to date are already licensed through the program, an important signal that the licensing framework is working as intended and that the market has a scalable, stable foundation for growth.
This level of early adoption did not happen by accident. Avanci Broadcast was designed from the outset to align with the realities of the broadcast ecosystem: global supply chains, multiple product categories, and the need for clarity as ATSC 3.0 deployments expand. By offering a single license covering a broad portfolio of essential patents, the program reduces uncertainty for product companies while ensuring that patent holders are fairly compensated for their innovations.
That same forward-looking approach is now being applied to geographic expansion. Avanci recently extended the Broadcast program to cover Brazil, a market that represents an important next chapter for ATSC 3.0 adoption. The expansion received support from all current patent owners participating in the platform, reinforcing confidence in the program’s structure and long-term viability. In connection with the Brazilian rollout, Avanci Broadcast is also offering favorable terms for currently unlicensed product companies that take a license by the end of June 2026, creating a clear and practical on-ramp for companies entering or scaling in the market.
The success of Avanci Vehicle demonstrated that efficient, transparent licensing can help entire industries move faster. Avanci Broadcast applies those same principles to ATSC 3.0, providing the broadcast ecosystem with a licensing solution that is already operational, broadly supported, and ready to scale alongside continued innovation and deployment.
