In a move widely recognized as pivotal for Brazil’s next generation of digital broadcasting, Globo has officially joined ATSC, the Broadcast Standards Association, as a voting member, further strengthening the connection between Brazil’s emerging DTV+ (TV 3.0) system and the international ATSC 3.0 ecosystem.
As the first Brazilian broadcaster to join ATSC, Globo adds its voice to the growing number of Brazilian ATSC voting members, which include Atlantis Tecnologia e Serviços, CIS Group, EiTV, Mirakulo, and SM Facilities. This development follows on the heels of Brazil’s official DTV+ decree, signed on 27 August 2025, which established the regulatory framework and national timeline for deploying DTV+ nationwide. Globo is the largest commercial TV network in Latin America and is also one of the world’s largest broadcasters, renowned for its production of news, sports, and dramatic programs. Its decision to join ATSC arrives at a critical juncture, as Brazil accelerates its preparations for the 2026 rollout and the introduction of advanced IP-based broadcast services.
“Globo’s affiliation with ATSC creates a powerful bridge between Brazil’s DTV+ roadmap and the international NextGen TV ecosystem. Through collaboration, we can accelerate the development of advanced services, foster innovation and interoperability across the Americas, and deliver richer, more interactive experiences to millions of viewers,” said Raymundo Barros, CTO of Globo.
ATSC President Madeleine Noland celebrated Globo’s arrival as a historic moment for international NextGen TV collaboration.
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Globo as a voting member of ATSC. Globo’s leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to innovation strengthen the large community working to advance next generation broadcasting. With the recent reciprocal cooperation agreement between ATSC and the SBTVD Forum, our Brazilian members’ participation takes on even greater significance in helping ensure that the work of both organizations remains closely aligned. Their involvement reinforces the bridge between ATSC 3.0 and the world’s most ambitious broadcast initiative – DTV+. We look forward to building the future of interoperable, IP-based broadcasting together.”
DTV+ leverages ATSC 3.0’s core technologies while adding Brazilian-specific features tailored to national needs. Fellow ATSC members from Brazil welcomed the move, emphasizing the strategic timing, the momentum created by the new ATSC–SBTVD Forum agreement, and the accelerating pace of collaboration.

Atlantis Tecnologia e Serviços stressed the importance of collaboration ahead of major events.
“We are very motivated by the interactions we are having with TV Globo and cooperating with solutions for the activation of TV 3.0 with the objectives of broadcasting the 2026 World Cup and with the development of the Broadcast as a Service architecture,” said Josemar Cardoso da Cruz, CEO of Atlantis.
On hearing the news, Matt Silva, CEO of CIS Group said “As a long-standing Globo partner, and ATSC member, CIS Group was thrilled to hear the news of Globo’s decision to join the ATSC community. Globo’s reach (both within Brazil and internationally), and commitment to next-generation broadcasting will accelerate the adoption of ATSC 3.0 innovations, expand market opportunities, and strengthen the ecosystem for broadcasters, technology providers, and viewers alike. This milestone massively reinforces the value of industry collaboration in establishing the technological and operational infrastructure that will drive immersive content delivery in an increasingly personalized manner to segmented audiences. We at CIS Group are very excited for what Globo’s membership in ATSC will contribute to the ecosystem.”
“EiTV has proudly worked alongside Globo since the very beginning of digital television transmissions in Brazil in 2007. We are honored to have been recognized by Globo with the “Partners in Excellence” seal in both 2023 and 2024. We enthusiastically welcome Globo’s entry as a voting member of ATSC and are confident that its participation will play a vital role in driving the technological evolution of ATSC and accelerating the expansion of its standards throughout Latin America.” said Rodrigo Cascão Araújo, CEO / Founder.
Mirakulo, a leading Brazilian digital TV software developer, praised Globo’s longstanding leadership. “Mirakulo enthusiastically welcomes our long-time partner, TV Globo, to the ATSC,” said David Britto, Founder and CEO. “Our years of collaboration in Brazil’s Digital TV market make Globo’s entry a meaningful step toward greater broadcast-technology alignment across the Americas.”
Britto emphasized the importance of Globo’s participation after the government’s decree:
“With Brazil’s recent approval of the DTV+ (TV 3.0) system—built on ATSC 3.0 technologies—Globo’s participation ensures the needs of the Brazilian market help shape the standard’s evolution… We’re even more confident in the successful rollout of DTV+ in 2026 and its contribution to advancing ATSC 3.0 internationally.”
SM Facilities, an active ATSC member for two years, noted the broader global impact. “Certainly, the entry of Brazil’s largest television broadcaster marks the beginning of a new cycle and will contribute greatly to the development of Next Gen TV, not only in Brazil, but also in the US and other regions that are migrating to this new technology, and we will certainly see other broadcasters joining.” said Sergio Martines, Executive Director.
A New Era for Brazil’s Digital Broadcasting
Globo’s ATSC membership signals deeper international cooperation and a strengthened path toward Brazil’s 2026 DTV+ launch. The collaboration is expected to improve interoperability, accelerate application and device development, and enhance the technical foundation for Brazil’s next-generation broadcasting strategy.
