Erin Ruttan

Masters Student
University of Calgary

Erin has a long history of building programs that remove barriers to access and improving equity in everything from education to sport to digital participation. While Erin’s journey has been anything but linear, whether her work was in recreation, public engagement, technology, education or policy her north star has always been to make lives better.
Erin’s interest in ATSC3.0 was ignited after learning about it’s potential to improve emergency communications and support rural/remote education. A deep dive down the ATSC 3.0 rabbit hole of potential brought Erin to her current graduate studies research at the University of Calgary exploring Canadian broadcast policy’s role in the digital divide. With access to the digital world being more important than ever, Erin sees the potential in ATSC 3.0 to act as a capacity multiplier helping communities gain equitable access and become part of the online world. Erin’s vision for ATSC 3.0 isn’t better TV, it’s the ability to change the connectivity game.
