NEXTGEN TV is making headlines — and history — with new native High Dynamic Range (HDR) broadcasts, expanded channel offerings, interactive entertainment, and a growing ecosystem of certified receivers.
First-Ever Native HDR Broadcast Enhances American Football Coverage
In the U.S., The football season kicked off with a major broadcasting milestone: the first native HDR production for over-the-air television. On August 23, Gray Television’s WVUE (FOX New Orleans), in partnership with Tupelo Media Group, delivered a preseason football game in end-to-end native HDR — from camera to broadcast to compatible NEXTGEN TV sets. Viewers were treated to stunning contrast, richer colors, and an immersive sideline experience that fulfilled one of NEXTGEN TV’s most anticipated promises.
Sinclair is also enhancing its broadcast experience with upconverted HDR on its NEXTGEN TV stations and has expanded virtual channel offerings, including the T2 Tennis Channel and Pickleball TV, now reaching 45 U.S. markets via broadcast-enabled streaming.
“With NEXTGEN TV now reaching over 76% of U.S. households, the rollout of native HDR on live sports is a game-changer,” said Anne Schelle, Managing Director of Pearl TV. “Pair that with Dolby Atmos audio — now available to more than half of U.S. homes — and viewers are getting a premium, cinema-like experience for free, over the air.”
Certified Devices Expand NEXTGEN TV Access
In a parallel push to bring the benefits of NEXTGEN TV to more consumers, Resillion has announced successful certification of two new NEXTGEN TV accessory receivers: the ADTH NextGen TV Box from Atlanta DTH and the MyVelo from Shift2Stream.
These low-cost, high-performance receivers were evaluated by Resillion and certified through the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) NEXTGEN TV logo program, ensuring compatibility with ATSC 3.0 standards and access to enhanced features such as HDR video, Dolby audio, interactive apps, and emergency alerts. Innovation and commitment shown by such companies highlight the importance of certified solutions in accelerating adoption of NEXTGEN TV across the U.S.
New Channels Bring Free Music and Gaming to TV Screens
NEXTGEN TV is also transforming traditional television by introducing interactive entertainment experiences. Through partnerships with Sinclair and Gray, new channels like ROXi and GameLoop are bringing music and games directly to the living room — no subscription required.
NEXTGEN TV Momentum Builds Toward the Holidays
More than 620 NEXTGEN TV services are now available across 78 markets, representing a potential audience of over 250 million viewers. As Pearl TV gears up for a new holiday marketing campaign, consumers are encouraged to explore options at WatchNextGenTV.com — which offers zip-code-based channel guides, a list of nearly 100 compatible TV models, and links to affordable upgrade accessories.
Whether it’s immersive football in HDR, interactive music and gaming, or new certified devices making the experience more accessible, NEXTGEN TV continues to raise the bar for free, over-the-air broadcasting.
