With the release of the ATSC suite of Next Gen TV standards and the FCC’s rules in effect, the industry is embarking on the road trip of a lifetime – the Road to ATSC 3.0!

The versatility of the standard gives broadcasters a number of scenic routes on the Road to ATSC 3.0 for various services and business models. And, as you’ll see this month at the 2018 NAB Show, many have the pedal to the metal. Hosted jointly by NAB, CTA and ATSC, the “Road to ATSC 3.0” exhibit in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center will highlight early ATSC 3.0 deployments. More than 40 exhibitors are showing ATSC 3.0 technology at next week’s NAB Show, and you can download and print a convenient guide on where to find ATSC 3.0 directly from the website.

As broadcasters throughout the country speed down the Road to ATSC 3.0, I don’t see any major roadblocks, although there will no doubt be a few speed bumps and detours along the way. That’s where the ATSC comes in. While continuing to develop and update our standards, we’re focused on providing technical and moral support for those on the Road to ATSC 3.0, with the plug-fest featured in this issue of THE STANDARD, stepped-up ATSC Implementation Team efforts and more.

The road to ATSC 3.0 continues with the 2018 Next Gen TV Conference May 23-24 in Washington, DC.  Be sure to register soon.  We’re looking forward to seeing you in Las Vegas and Washington and other hot spots along the Road to ATSC 3.0!
