The data segment added by the modulator that includes mode indicators, training signals for receiver adaptive equalizers, and similar information, and that serves as the starting point for the data processing functions that start from known states. Depending upon the context, the term can apply to Data Field Sync data segments having the middle PN-63 sequence in either phase, or it can apply only to the Data Field Sync data segments that alternate with Data Frame Sync data segments.
