A Service Domain identifies a structured group of objects. It is an abstract entity defined for the purpose of scoping. Each instance of an Object Carousel represents a Service Domain. Each Service Domain is identified by a globally unique NSAP address. Each Service Domain has a Service Gateway serving as its root directory.

The Advanced Television Systems Committee, Inc., is an international, non-profit organization developing voluntary standards and recommended practices for digital terrestrial broadcasting. ATSC member organizations represent the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite, and semiconductor industries. ATSC also develops digital terrestrial broadcasting implementation strategies and supports educational activities on ATSC standards.
