In 2018, ATSC executed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI), India’s telecommunications standards development organization, with a plan to forge a strong relationship of sharing ideas and working together on common goals. October’s TSDSI conference within the India Mobile Congress is the latest example of our collaboration.

SEOUL—The global development of ATSC 3.0 continues with an announcement that South Korea has launched a UHD Emergency Alert Service that is based on ATSC 3.0 technology. The Korean Ministry of Information and Communication made the announcement during the 2019 Broadcast Industry Promotion Week.

In advance of ATSC 3.0 IP-enabled broadcast transmission in 2020, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® launched “NEXTGEN TV” as the go-to-market name for this groundbreaking television technology. In coordination with broadcasting companies, device manufacturers and standards engineers at CTA’s September Technology & Standards Fall Forum, the association also unveiled the NEXTGEN TV logo for devices meeting newly developed ATSC 3.0 interoperability test specifications.

Broadcasters and tech vendors are working to tap the full potential of ATSC 3.0, experimenting with ways of combining 3.0 broadcast signals with broadband content to enable a hierarchy of picture resolutions — low for mobile, high for the home — and geographically and demographically targeted advertising.

The Advanced Television Systems Committee, Inc., is an international, non-profit organization developing voluntary standards and recommended practices for digital terrestrial broadcasting. ATSC member organizations represent the broadcast, broadcast equipment, motion picture, consumer electronics, computer, cable, satellite, and semiconductor industries. ATSC also develops digital terrestrial broadcasting implementation strategies and supports educational activities on ATSC standards.
