As we exhale a collective sigh of contentment following last month’s successful NextGen Broadcast Conference, we are already breathing in the energy and momentum of a busy summer ahead.
ATSC’s standards work continues at a steady clip – members can dive into the details in this month’s Standards Column. We’re also pleased that Luiz Fausto will be joining us as Vice President of Standards Development starting in August. Get to know Luiz in this issue’s Someone You Should Know feature. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the team.
On the international front, we’re gearing up for SET Expo 2025, taking place August 19–21 in São Paulo, Brazil. ATSC will be exhibiting with kiosks featuring DigiCap/MaruENG, ETRI/Cleverogic, Enensys, and MBC. If you’ll be attending, be sure to stop by booth #25 at the Anhembi District Convention Center. For those looking to increase their company’s visibility in this rapidly growing market, additional sponsorship opportunities are still available. Simultaneously, ATSC will be present at the Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s (CBU) Annual General Assembly in Barbados from August 18–20. We’ll be represented by Mark Corl, Chair of the ATSC Caribbean Implementation Team, as we continue building relationships and spreading awareness of ATSC 3.0 in the region.
In the U.S., we are pleased to welcome Olivia Trusty as the second Republican voting member of the Federal Communications Commission. Among many other issues, the FCC is likely to consider the next steps for next-generation broadcasting in the U.S. now that ATSC 3.0 signals are reaching three out of four viewing households, in response to a petition from the National Association of Broadcasters. The FCC is also now exploring how ATSC 3.0 TV broadcasts used to create a Broadcast Positioning System might complement the Global Positioning System.
Also, a friendly reminder that the Business Advisory Council Vision 2035 Survey is still open. It takes less than five minutes to complete and is available in multiple languages. Your input is invaluable as we shape ATSC’s future technical roadmap.
As you can see, we continue to press forward, fueled by the support and engagement of our incredible membership. Thank you for the energy you bring to this important work.
Madeleine Noland
President
